As locally elected representatives, school trustees bring an understanding of their communities’ unique strengths, challenges and needs.
Trustees work with their communities to build and maintain a school system that reflects local priorities, values and long-term goals. They listen to families and residents, provide direction to the school district, hire the superintendent, and establish policies, strategic plans and the annual budget.
Trustees are also accountable to the communities they represent. Working together as a school board, they report on student achievement, share progress and help ensure that local voices remain part of the decisions shaping public education.
